Conservatory Renovation – Why Are Sandwich Panels Becoming Increasingly Popular?

Renovating existing conservatories is becoming increasingly popular instead of carrying out a complete reconstruction. In many cases, the issue is not the structure itself, but the roof or panels which, after years of use, no longer perform as expected. Old polycarbonate sheets often cause excessive overheating during summer, heat loss in winter and high noise levels during rain.

This is why modern sandwich panels are increasingly used in conservatory renovations. They make it possible to improve thermal comfort without replacing the entire structure. Such solutions are already widely used on the British market, particularly in conservatory roof upgrades and lightweight garden structures.

In these applications, sandwich panels with XPS cores and PVC, HPL or GFK / FRP facings perform particularly well. Thanks to their construction, they are lightweight while providing significantly better thermal insulation than traditional polycarbonate panels. They also improve acoustic comfort and help reduce overheating during hot weather.

One of the most commonly used solutions are PVC-faced sandwich panels. This material performs very well in external applications due to its moisture resistance, easy maintenance and good balance between price and performance. White PVC surfaces also reflect light effectively, helping to keep interiors bright despite the use of insulated panels.

For more demanding projects, HPL facings are becoming increasingly popular. They provide a modern appearance along with improved weather resistance. An additional advantage is the possibility of using decorative wood-effect finishes as well as modern anthracite, grey or black surfaces.

However, where maximum durability and long-term resistance are the key requirements, sandwich panels with GFK / GFRP / FRP facings are an excellent solution. Glass fibre reinforced materials offer very high resistance to moisture, corrosion, UV radiation and mechanical damage. Thanks to these properties, they are particularly suitable for external applications exposed to changing weather conditions.

In conservatory renovation projects, proper edge protection and correct installation of the entire system are also extremely important. Even high-quality materials will not maintain their performance over many years if the construction is not properly sealed and protected against moisture.

The growing popularity of these solutions on the UK market clearly shows that customers are looking not only for aesthetics, but above all for real improvements in comfort and energy efficiency in their conservatories.
